He is survived by his wife, Maureen (Mack) Buckley, his two daughters, Kathleen (Buckley) Daniels of Norfolk, VA, and Roberta (Buckley) Villani of Scituate, MA; and 3 step children, Michelle (Kelley) Manners of Manchester, VT, Joseph Kelley of Pembroke, MA and Juliana (Kelley) McLaughlin of Scituate, MA. Robert’s family includes 10 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren who he loved dearly. He is predeceased by his brothers John and David, as well as his sister, Sister Sara Ann, SND. Bob was a graduate of Archbishop Williams Catholic High School where he met his future wife, Maureen. He went on to graduate from Massachusetts Maritime Academy and has post-graduate degrees to include a Master’s Degree in Education from Adelphi University. He proudly served his country as a commissioned officer in the U.S. Navy for over 20 years and retired at the rank of Captain from the Naval Reserves in 1991 in a ceremony aboard the U.S.S. Constitution where he was piped ashore for the final time.
In his civilian life, he was a professor at Massachusetts Maritime Academy, his alma mater. No quote captures Bob’s spirit more than John F. Kennedy’s remarks at the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis, MD in August 1963:
“And any man who may be asked in this century what he did to make his life worthwhile, I think can respond with a good deal of pride and satisfaction: ‘I served in the Unites States Navy.’”
Bob will be waked on Wednesday, 28 December 2022 from 4-8pm at Richardson Gaffey Funeral Home in Scituate, MA. His funeral will be held at his childhood family church, Saint Mary of the Nativity, in Scituate, MA on Thursday, 29 December 2022, at 10 am. A private family burial will be held at a future date.
