Susan L. Schleiff

Susan L. (Marcel) Schleiff, age 82, of Scituate, Massachusetts, formerly of Quincy, passed away peacefully surrounded by her three daughters on December 28, 2024. Daughter of the late Mary Ita (Boudrot) Marcel and Clovis Thomas Marcel. Cherished wife of over 50 years to the late Carl G. Schleiff, Jr. Beloved mother of Mary Ellen Higgins and husband Thomas of Scituate, Suzanne Cataldo and husband Gary of Hanover, Annette O'Donoghue and husband Stephen of Scituate. Adored grandmother of Olivia, Drew and Liam Higgins; Charlie and Ben Cataldo; and Rachel and Jake O'Donoghue. She, along with her late brothers Thomas Marcel of Hanover and David Marcel of South Weymouth, will be dearly missed by siblings Joyce Hurley of Quincy and Richard Marcel of Yarmouth. She will be fondly remembered by her sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, and many nieces and nephews.

Susan’s greatest joy was to be in the company of her seven grandchildren who she spoiled shamelessly and entertained enthusiastically with an endless stream of singing, jokes and pancakes.

To her daughters and their husbands, Susan was an indefatigable champion, quick to offer anything at all that was needed, whether it be babysitting, shopping for just the right outfit, words of encouragement, homemade chicken pot pie for dinner, or even interior painting.

She treasured the beauty and community spirit of Scituate, her home for the past 40 years. She was an avid golfer and made many wonderful friends at Widows Walk. Her prized home-away-from-home was Venice, Florida, where she and Carl spent many happy winters golfing and relaxing at Siesta Key Beach.

Susan was the sparkle at any gathering large or small—always smiling and laughing, always interested in the lives of others, always greeting family, friends and even new acquaintances with a warm hug and good cheer. She will be missed.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, January 3 at 10:00 AM at St. Mary of the Nativity Church Parish Center, 1 Kent Street in Scituate.
