

At age 95, William “Wes” Hays of Scituate, Ma. and later Bourne, Ma., passed away on December 27, 2021 at the Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital in Plymouth, Ma. Both he and his beloved wife Joan M. (Dailey) Hays (deceased April 2008) were married for 59 ½ years and were both from Newton, Ma, where Wes graduated from Newton High School in 1944. Following two years in the United States Air Force, one year in Okinawa, he attended Colby College in Waterville, Maine, graduating in 1952, and later received his master’s degree from Bridgewater State University in Bridgewater, Ma. While an elementary school principal in Norwell, Ma. and later in Scituate, Ma. He was also the athletic director of the Scituate Youth Center and introduced both football and hockey. Always a sports enthusiast, upon graduating from high school, Wes signed with the Boston Red Sox, and spent two years with their minor league farm teams in 1944 to 1946. He also coached freshman hockey and baseball while an undergraduate at Colby College in Maine. Both he and his wife Joan were members of the Hatherly Country Club in Scituate and also Saint Lucie West Country Club in Florida.
Following ten years in teaching and school administration, Wes founded Hays Marketing Associates in East Bridgewater, Ma. selling and marketing products for elementary education. He worked with his daughter Diane, and retired twenty-one years later. Wes is survived by his two children, Diane T. Hays and Robert W. Hays, both of Bourne, Ma. and pre-deceased by a sister, Jean Cole of Bourne, Ma. and two brothers, Charles Hays of Bourne, Ma. and Kenneth Hays of Newton, Ma. He also leaves behind two sister in laws, cousins, nieces and nephews all of whom he loved very much. Wes will be buried in the St. Mary of the Nativity cemetery on Meeting House Lane in Scituate.
