Agnes McCracken

Agnes McCracken, 94, of Bayard died Sunday, December 11, 2005 at Chimney Rock Villa in Bayard. Funeral Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday, December 19th, at Bayard Memorial Chapel with Rev. Richard Landrigan officiating. Interment will be at the Bayard Cemetery. Friends may call Sunday, December 18th from 1pm to 7pm at Bayard Memorial Chapel. She was born June 20, 1911 near Sterling, Nebraska to Robert John and Nettie Belle (Austin) McCracken. Following her father's death in 1916, the family made their home in Morrill County. Her health was not good for much of her young life but became much better in later years with the advances of modern medicine. She remained at the family home where she spent most of her years with her mother and older brother, Charles. She received her education in Morrill County. She participated in 4-H, was a charter member of Bayard Senior Center and was an active member of the American Legion Auxiliary in Bayard where she held many offices and committee chairs including Sergeant of Arms and Chaplain and was awarded the Gold Star Sister Pin. She completed a Bible Study Course by mail and was a member of the Bayard Church of Christ. Agnes is survived by two nieces, Betty J. Fillis-Smith and husband Blake of Spokane, WA, Gail Hocott and husband Rod of Little Rock, Ark; grandnephews, James Douglas Fillis and Mitzi and R. David Fillis of Bridgeport, Daniel L. Fillis and wife Tana and family of Alliance, NE, Jefferson Davis and wife Suzette and family, Lanier Hocott and Max all of Little Rock, Ark., Jordan and wife Petrea Davis of Hailey, ID, Jake Christensen of Minnesota, grand nieces, Laura Kaufman and daughter Chancy, and Beverly Fisher of Scottsbluff, Ne; cousin Linda Bertelsen and husband Steve of Scottsbluff, NE; and many other nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers, Charles D., James D., and John Virgil (Pat) McCracken and wife, Henrietta; half brothers, Edward, Robert J. (Bob) and his wife, May, Frank and William (Bill) McCracken, niece, Donna Jean Kempf.
