

Clarence “Frank” Franklin Hanny, 72, of Gering, passed away Saturday, June 13, 2009 at Regional West Medical Center in Scottsbluff with his family by his side after a long, courageous battle with cancer. His memorial service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, June 17, 2009 at the First United Methodist Church in Gering with Rev. Lauren D. Ekdahl officiating. Inurnment will follow the service at West Lawn Cemetery in Gering with military honors by the U.S. Navy. Frank was born July 27, 1936 in Dawson, Nebraska to Clarence and Hazel (Bernhardt) Hanny. After he graduated from Honey Creek High School near Dawson in 1955, the family moved to Scottsbluff. In 1955, Frank joined the United States Navy for a four-year tour stationed on Guam and served on the USS Yorktown. On September 8, 1957, Frank married Mary Ann Leonhardt and they resided in Pacific Beach, Washington, returning to Western Nebraska in 1959 after completing his tour of duty. Out of that wonderful union came three children, Doug, Cheri and Wendy. Frank and his family resided in Gering until 1981 when they moved to Columbia, Missouri, where Frank was a Sr. Loss Control Specialist for Nationwide Insurance. He retired in 1996 and moved to Lake Ozark, Missouri where he enjoyed boating on beautiful Lake of the Ozarks on a regular basis. In 2006, Frank and Mary Ann moved back to Gering to be closer to family and friends. Frank was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Gering and was active in the community serving as a member of the Gering Jaycees and other civic organizations. He was loved by many and will continue to live through several survivors who include his loving wife of 52 years, Mary Ann, his mother, Hazel Hanny, two daughters and sons by marriage, Cheri and Frank Gollas of Scottsbluff, Nebraska, and Wendy and Bryan Magee of Salisbury, Missouri, five grandchildren, Joe and Angie (Knott) Gollas, Adam Gollas, Danielle Magee and Mary Magee, one great-granddaughter, Addison Mae Gollas, and numerous family and friends. Frank was preceded in death by his father, Clarence H. Hanny, and his son, Doug Hanny. The family would like to thank the staff of Prairie Haven Hospice for their skilled assistance during this time.
