

Douglas “Doug” Elmer Strauch, 58, of Mitchell passed away on Saturday, July 23, 2011, at his home with family at his side. Services will be held at Dugan Kramer Funeral Chapel in Scottsbluff, Nebraska on Wednesday, July 27, 2011 at 10:30am with Pastor Michael Stein officiating. Interment will be in Mitchell Valley Cemetery immediately following. Friends may visit from 1:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Tuesday, at Dugan-Kramer Funeral Chapel in Scottsbluff. Memorials may be made to Prairie Haven Hospice. Doug was born on September 18, 1952, in Scottsbluff, Nebraska to Elmer W. and Stella (Thompson) Strauch. Doug graduated from Morrill High School in 1970 and then went on to farming. On November 22, 1975, Doug married Debra (Benzel) Strauch. They had three children Hunter, Megan, and Heidi. Doug continued to farm throughout his entire life alongside his father, Elmer, and brother, Jim. Later in his farming career his son, Hunter, joined the operation. There were several agricultural ventures including sugar beet re-haul and custom work of sugar beets, chicory, and dry edible beans. He was very innovative in his farming techniques. Doug is survived by his wife Debra Strauch; son Hunter Strauch (wife Beverly); grandchildren Riley and Emily Strauch; daughters Megan Hanshew and Heidi Strauch; siblings Kathy Lynch (husband Jimmy), Marsha Strauch, Jim Strauch and Deb Baker, Lisa Rien (husband Jerry); and mother, Stella Strauch. His father, Elmer Strauch, preceded Doug in death. “He came, he farmed, he went, and so much more.”
