

Eileen Pierce, 77, formerly of Bayard, passed from this life into the arms of her beloved Savior on Sunday, October 23, 2016 at the Mitchell Care Center. A celebration of life will be held at 10 AM on Friday, October 28, 2016 at Monument Bible Church with Pastor Jake D. Roberts officiating. Interment will follow at the Bayard Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 1-7 PM today at Dugan-Kramer Funeral Chapel. Memorials may be sent to the Bayard Cemetery District 903 Main Street Bayard, NE 69334 for the establishment of a directory. Eileen Carol Schaffer was born the fourth child of Fred and Christina (Schlauger) Schaffer on July 31st, 1939 at Bayard. She attended and graduated from the Bayard Public Schools. She married Marvin O. Pierce on February 28, 1960 at Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church in Bayard, where she had also been baptized and confirmed. To this union were born sons, Jerry and Rick who were her pride and joy.
Marvin was enlisted in the Navy which took the family to several locations across the U.S. including Crane, IN; Long Beach, CA.; and to Great Lakes Naval Base in Chicago, IL where the family resided until Marvin retired from the Navy. The family then moved back to Bayard, NE in 1975 to be near family.
Eileen worked at the Boston Store in Bayard for several years. She was known as a wonderful cook and carried on the traditional German recipes for many to enjoy. She worked in several healthcare facilities sharing her talent in the kitchen as a cook. She worked at the Chimney Rock Villa until her retirement in 2001.
Eileen took special pride in her boys and grandkids. A highlight for her was to travel in the later years with her husband to Navy reunions. One of her favorite places to visit was Las Vegas. She was a member of Faith United Church of Christ early on and of Plymouth Congregational Church at the time of her death.
Eileen is survived by her sons Jerry (DeAnna) Pierce of Scottsbluff, Rick (Tami) Pierce of Gering; Grandchildren Phillip and Kayla Pierce of Scottsbluff; Michael (Katie) Pierce of Scottsbluff; Brannon Pierce of Westminster, CO; Danielle (Kevin) Lindesay of Windsor, CO and Nichole (Aaron) Eckas of Fort Collins, CO; Great Grandchildren Carter Baily and Avery Eckas both of Colorado; Brother Walter Schaffer of Bayard; Sisters Helen Bastron of Scottsbluff, Sally Heintz of Overland Park, KS, Brothers-in-law Leonard (Rita) Ott of Bridgeport; Lloyd (Bonnie) Pierce of Scottsbluff, Roy Pierce of Mitchell; Sisters-in-law Frieda (Larry) Kilwein of Casper, WY; Rose Pierce of Davenport, IA, Shirley Pierce of Greeley, CO, Janeen Pierce of Scottsbluff and numerous special nieces and nephews.
Eileen was preceded in death by her parents, husband Marvin, Sister LaVonne Ott, Sisters-in-law Shirley Schaffer, Dolly Pierce, Brothers-in-law Adolph Bastron, Harvey Heintz, Noland Pierce, Manley Pierce, George Pierce, Andy Pierce, Earl Pierce, Robert Pierce; and Nephew Curt Heintz.
