

Helen S. Meyer, 74, of Gering, went to be with God, after a 12 year, courageous battle with cancer at her home in Gering. Her memorial service will be held 10:00 a.m. Monday, November 5, 2007 at Dugan-Kramer Funeral Chapel with Pastor Ed Hunzeker officiating. Cremation was held at Sunset Memorial Park Crematory. A private family interment will be held at a later date in Tennhassen Cemetery in Ceylon, MN. Helen was born September 21, 1933 in Tennhassen Township, Martin County, Minnesota to Carl and Maria Christina Augusta (Utter) Swanson. She grew up and attended school in Tennhassen and graduated from St. James High School in 1951. Helen married and had three children. She came to Scottsbluff where she was employed by Dr. Nashelsky and Dr. Chestnut and business manager for Zimmerman Electric in Scottsbluff and Floyd Marsden in Cheyenne, WY. She was diagnosed with cancer in 1995 and she returned to Scottsbluff. Helen was an avid crafter and was active in the Moose Lodge and Red Hat Society before her cancer was diagnosed. During her cancer treatment she displayed courage and strength beyond typical endurance. She is survived by her children: Greg (Julie) Welchlin, Houlton, WI, Steve Welchlin, Lincoln, NE, and Danita (Richard) Reinmuth of Gering, Ne; Grandchildren: Patrick Becker, Gillette, WY, Leif Welchlin, Houlton, WI, Taran Welchlin, Baraboo, WI, Derek Welchlin, Minatare, NE and Jenny Thomas, Cheyenne, WY; numerous great grandchildren; brother: John Nels Swanson, Benson, NC; step brothers, Jerry Berdell, Odin, MN, and John Berdell, JR., Sonoma, CA. She was preceded in death by her parents, Carl and Marie Swanson; and sister, Carla.
