Joan Francis Held

Joan Francis Held, Age 76, of Omaha, NE, formerly of Scottsbluff, NE, passed away peacefully in her sleep on November 28, 2017. She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Viola Oswald. She is survived by her children Amie Prendes (Carlos) and Alan Held (Amber): sister Judie Hall (Dave): grandchildren Elizabeth, Evan, and Eva Prendes and Creedon Held: nephews Ryan and Grant Hall.

Joan was born in Denver, CO, and attended St. James School and East High School where she was a recognized swimmer. Joan then attended Colorado State University where she was a member of the Gamma Phi Beta Sorority and graduated with a degree in history and education. She moved to Morrill, NE, and taught school for many years until she started a family. As her children grew, she returned to teaching at Gering High School. Joan later took a job with Nebraska Health and Human Services until she retired in 2008. She spent her retirement visiting family and traveling throughout the United States and Europe with her sister.

A mass of Christian burial will be held at 10:00 am on December 29, 2017 at St. Agnes Church, 2314 3rd Avenue, Scottsbluff, NE. Memorials suggested to the non- for-profits Scottsbluff FFA or Elkhorn South Choral Arts.
