

Juanita Castillo-Flores-Chavez, 87, of Scottsbluff and former long time resident of Minatare, was called to the Lord on Thursday, May 25, 2006 at RWMC in Scottsbluff with her loving family by her side. A funeral service will be held 10:00 am, Tuesday, May 30th, 2006 at the Scottsbluff Spanish Seventh Day Adventist Church with Pastor Rodney Long officiating. Interment will be at Fairview Cemetery. Friends may call Monday from 1pm until 5 pm at Dugan-Kramer Funeral Chapel. Juanita was born in Pharr, TX, the daughter of Julia and Guadalupe Castillo. She grew up in Santa Rosa, TX, and resided in Stuart Place, TX before coming to Nebraska with her brother in April of 1945. She married Tony Horneles Chavez on January 19, 1946 in Gering, Ne. To this union were born 3 children; John, Celeste, and Aurora. Her interests revolved around caring for her children and grandchildren. She enjoyed gardening, working in her flower beds, and cooking; making fresh tortillas and salsa daily. She held her faith in the Seventh Day Adventist church and she touched many lives while providing child care in her home to many local children in Minatare. Survivors include her son John C. Chavez of Minatare, grand-son Johnnie A. Chavez II of Minatare; grand-daughter Melissa (Ralph) Moreno of Gering, Rhonda (Albert) Salazar of Sidney, Yvette Chavez of Omaha; great-grandchildren Johnnie A. Chavez, III, Justin Daniel Chavez, Nathaniel Quinn Salazar, Alyssa Shay Chavez, Cristian Raphael Moreno, Noah Roman Moreno, and numerous nieces, great-nieces, and nephews. Her parents, husband Tony, brother Joe Castillo, and daughters Celeste and Aurora preceded her in death.
