June A. Poe, 85, passed away suddenly on November 5, 2024, in Mitchell, Nebraska.
Born on September 5, 1939, June grew up in a big family of nine children in Babcock, Wisconsin. She raised her three boys in Phoenix, Arizona. After she retired, she relocated to the Scottsbluff area to be closer to her sons and grandsons.
Throughout her life, June worked at several places. She was a valued employee at Reliance Electric in Phoenix, Arizona for many years, working with the equipment to and for the rock and turquoise mines. She worked at J.C. Penney's in both Phoenix, Arizona and Lakewood, Colorado and the Scottsbluff CoOp grocery in Scottsbluff, Nebraska. Her work ethic and positive attitude were appreciated by all who worked alongside her.
June was known for her fun-loving spirit and her unwavering commitment to her family. She married several times, but largely lived an independent life. She raised three fun loving, trouble seeking boys. As a single mom in Phoenix, she worked hard to provide, and, at times it was a struggle.
She was a good dancer, stylish dresser, and avid shopper. She famously used her oven for paper towel storage, and cooked ‘as needed’. She was a lifelong fan of Taco Bell. She had a gun and knew how to use it. One house sale in Arizona included a festive Thanksgiving Turkey decoration on the dishwasher to hide a bullet hole aimed at an errant husband. She was the family picture taker and made her three grandsons pose for endless photoshoots she proudly shared with all. She made friends easily and enjoyed the outdoors, walking, and meeting people. She always said she was going to write her life story and we wish she had.
June is survived by her loving sons, Gary (Vicki) Pfortmiller of Scottsbluff, NE, and Ron (Trish) Pfortmiller of Minatare, NE; her grandsons, Shane Pfortmiller of Fayetteville, North Carolina; Nathan Pfortmiller of Bayard, NE and Austin Pfortmiller of Lakewood, CO and James Dunn of Alliance, NE. Granddaughter Jasmine Schmidt, Fruita, CO. She also leaves behind her siblings, Dian Martinovich of Phoenix, Mary (Roger) Kniprath of Babcock, Wisconsin, Dale Martinovich of New Mexico, and Marc (Evie) Martinovich of Phoenix, AZ.
She was preceded in death by her son, Glen Pfortmiller; her mother, Marj Martinovich; her father, Pete Martinovich, Sr.; and her siblings, Pete Martinovich, Jr., Lee Martinovich, Robert (Bobbie) Martinovich, and Alice Nocaski and nephews Scott Martinovich and Tyrone Emerson.
A celebration of life and burial will be at a later date in Babcock, Wisconsin.
