

Kelly George Liakos, 55, of Gainesville, FL formerly of Bayard, died February 28, 2010 in Gainesville, FL. A memorial service will be held 2:00 p.m. Saturday, March 20, 2010 at Dugan-Kramer Funeral Chapel in Scottsbluff with Pastor Ron Nuss-Warren officiating. Military rites will be given by the United States Marine Corps. A memorial has been established to the local Make-A-Wish Foundation. Kelly was born December 14, 1954 in Scottsbluff to Gus G. and Shirley (Schneider) Liakos. Kelly grew up in Bayard and graduated from Bayard High School in 1973. During high school he was active in football and wrestling and was State Wrestling Champion in 1972. Kelly entered the United States Marine Corps May 15, 1974 and served as an Embassy Guard in Budapest, Hungary and Stockholm, Sweden. He married Nina Kohlmeyer July 7, 1977 in Stockholm, Sweden. He was honorably discharged from the Marine Corps May 15, 1978. Kelly attended the University of Florida where he received his Bachelors and Masters Degrees. He was employed at Santa Fe Community College in Gainesville, FL where he was a professor of Advanced Calculus. He also taught one year in Cameroon Africa on behalf of the University of Florida and State Department. Kelly had become a devoted University of Florida Gator Fan. He is survived by his daughter Tatiana (Jason) Ballard, Phoenix, AZ; parents Gus and Shirley Liakos, Bayard, NE; brother Tom (Dayleen) Liakos, Pender, NE; sister Connie (Scott) Evers, Beaverton, OR; nieces Misty Liakos, Columbus, NE, and Kelli Evers, College Station, TX; nephews Tony Liakos, Omaha, NE, Sam Evers, Corvallis, OR and Adam Evers, Beaverton, OR; ex wife: Nina Kohlmeyer, Gainesville, FL; step grandchildren: Magnus and Maximus Ballard, Phoenix, AZ and many cousins, aunts and uncles. Kelly was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents George and Victoria Liakos, maternal grandparents George and Elizabeth Schneider, uncles Tom and Leo Liakos and special aunt Ann Duthie.
