

L. Wayne Warner, 92, of Gering, formerly of Banner County, passed away on April 10, 2010. Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m, Friday, April 16, 2010 at the Hull Community Church in Banner County, with Pastor Sheila Taylor officiating. Burial will follow at the Pleasant Hill Cemetery. Friends may call Thursday between 10:00 a.m. – 8:00 p.m, at Dugan-Kramer Funeral Chapel in Scottsbluff. Wayne was born on January 18, 1918, in Kimball, Nebraska to Laurence H. and Mabel Ruth (McKee) Warner. He attended grade school and junior high in Ft. Collins Colorado, and graduated from Banner County High School in 1936. He attended the University of Nebraska several years and graduated from the Farm-Op Course. In 1938 he became a cooperative observer for the National Weather Service, which he continued for 70 years. Wayne married Mildred Mae Craton on September 25, 1940. They farmed and ranched on the Warner homestead for 58 years. He was a member of the Hull and then the Mitchell United Methodist Church. He served in numerous ways including being a delegate to Annual Conference. He helped organize the Soil Conservation Board in Banner County in 1948, which later became the North Platte Natural Resources District. He served for 42 years and also served on the State Board. He served on the Banner County School Advisory Committee when the recommendation was made to build the school in Harrisburg and served on the School Board. He also served on the Regional West Medical Center Board. He is survived by a daughter, Peggy (Glenn) Shorney of Lincoln, Neb.; grandchildren, Laura (Ron) Simmons of Frisco, Texas, and Ryan Shorney of Basalt, Colo.; great-grandson, Tristan Simmons of Frisco, Texas; a brother, H. Keith (Marletta) Warner of Scottsbluff and a sister, Barbara R. (LeRoy) Morse of Springfield, Mo;, two sister-in-laws, Betty Spain of Scottsbluff, and Francelia (Herbert) Johnson of Kimball, a niece, and five nephews. Preceding him in death were his parents, his wife, infant twin daughters, and three nephews.
