Larry Glyn Burk, age 72, went to Heaven on May 17, 2025 from Mitchell Care Center where he resided since December 2023. Larry was born on March 20, 1953 in Monte Vista, Colorado, to Coy and Patricia (Case) Burk. In his youth he worked milking cows, participated in 4-H and high school sports graduating from Sargent High School in 1972. Larry began drilling mountain water wells at age 20 and later operated his own successful drilling business. At the time of his death, Larry had 37.5 proud years of sobriety.
Larry was a “Jack of all Trades.” A well driller, welder, fabricator, auto mechanic, carpenter, and someone who could build about anything and fix about anything that would break. He was resourceful and never threw anything away. Everything had its special place and he was meticulous in organizing his tools. If there was a tool to be had, he had it and if there was a toy to be had, he had it too. Larry owned an extensive toy collection of tractors and implements, motorcycles and vintage cars that he insisted must stay in their original box to increase their value. His passion for hobbies included riding motorcycles and ATVs, snowmachining in the Colorado mountains, building HO train layouts, riding antique tractors in parades and tractor pulls, and flying RC airplanes. He belonged to the San Luis Valley Antique Iron Club, Platte Valley RC’ers and the Farm and Ranch Museum. Larry was a Believer and his Love for the Lord drew him closer to God in his later years.
Larry married Jane Walters on December 27, 1983. They made their home in Monte Vista, Colorado and proudly raised two children Allison and Kevin. As a family, they shared his many hobbies and enjoyed spending their summers camping in the mountains, while Larry drilled wells. His five grandchildren brought him great joy: Eisley, Emerson, Aspen, and Ruby Jones; and Cora Burk. His legacy lives on in Kevin and Allison, both having a strong work ethic and a joy for having fun.
A special acknowledgment to Larry’s Care Team: Mitchell Care Center, Brooke and Rosalie at CAPWYN, RWMC Pulmonary Rehab Nurses, Dr. Longoria and Mary Adams, and Brookstone Hospice Nurses: Michele, Charlee, and Krysttina.
Larry is survived by his wife, Jane; Allison, Marcus and family; Kevin, Alice and daughter. Other family members include his siblings Karen and Ken and their families; and sister-in-law Shar Rushing and family.
Larry was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles and cousins, mother-in-law Alice Reuter, granddaughter Aspen Sunshine and favorite cat, Buddy.
A graveside service will be held for Larry at West Lawn Cemetery, in Gering Nebraska, on Friday, July 18th at 10:30 am. Following with conversations, picture tribute, and lunch served at Harvest Valley Church.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Harvest Valley Church or Legacy of the Plains Museum.
In summer of 2026, a Colorado gathering of friends and family is planned to honor Larry and share memories.
