

Lenny L. Russell, 60, of Scottsbluff, died Thursday, July 26, 2007, at Regional West Medical Center in Scottsbluff. His funeral service will be 2:00 P.M., Monday, July 30, 2007, at Dugan-Kramer Funeral Chapel in Scottsbluff with Pastor Troy Allen officiating. Interment will be in Sunset Memorial Park at Scottsbluff with military honors provided by the Nebraska National Guard. Friends may visit from 1:00 to 6:00 P.M. on Sunday and from 9:00 A.M. until service time on Monday and at the funeral home. A memorial has been established in care of the family. Len was born December 20, 1946, at Ventura, California to Glenn and Maxine (Romey) Russell. He grew up and graduated from Excelsior High School at Norwalk, California. He moved to Nebraska in 1966, and worked for the Nebraska Department of Roads, K-N Energy and Coop Refinery. He also served in the Nebraska National Guard from 1966 to 1972. He married Judy Brunner in 1969, and they had two children Jason and Faith. In April of 1983, he married Kathy Merkel and adopted daughter, Kammie. They returned to California where he worked for Southern Pacific Pipe Line at Anaheim. Ill health forced his early retirement and on August 4, 1997, he returned to Nebraska to be near his children and grandchildren. Len enjoyed hunting, fishing, motorcycles, traveling, old cars, chocolate covered cherries and especially his grandchildren. Survivors include his children, Jason (Anita) Russell, Faith (James) Hixon and Kammie (John) Wilson all of Gering; four grandchildren, Taylor Russell, Albany Hixon, Tucker Hixon and Eric Wilson; mother, Maxine Romey of Sweet Home, Oregon; sisters, Judy (Dale) Dobenecker of La Habra, California and Cindy Brown of Cheyenne, Wyoming and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father.
