

Leonard Abel, 79, of Scottsbluff went to his heavenly home on July 13, 2012 at the Western Nebraska Veteran’s Home. Dugan-Kramer Funeral Chapel is assisting the family with arrangements. A private family memorial will be held at a later date. Leonard was born to John and Amelia (Sieb) Abel on September 12, 1932 in Mitchell, Nebraska. He graduated from Mitchell High School in 1950 and went on to serve in the United States Army 5th Armored Division at Camp Chaffee, Arkansas from 1953 to 1955. He met his wife Frances in Fort Smith, Arkansas and they were married March 6, 1955 in Scottsbluff, Nebraska. To this union were born two daughters Renee and Debra. He loved his family and had great times with his twin grandsons. Leonard farmed in Mitchell Valley until retiring in 1993. Leonard was a member of Calvary Memorial Church, American Legion Post #36, Elks Lodge #1367 and Blind Veteran’ Association. He served on the Mitchell Irrigation Board for several years. He was an avid sports nut and Nebraska Husker fan. Leonard is survived by his wife, Frances of Scottsbluff; daughters, Renee Koegle of York, NE, and Debi (Gary) Martin on Mitchell, NE: 2 sets of twin grandsons, Justin Koegle of West Lafayette, IN and Jon Koegle of Colfax, IA, Matt Simianer of Casper, Wy and Mike Simianer of Mitchell, NE; brothers, John (Lorraine) Abel and Harold (Pat) Abel of Scottsbluff; sisters Lenore (Bill) Henderson of Scottsbluff and Irene Mueller of North Platte, NE; sister-in-laws Molly Abel and Charlene (Glen) Speer both of Scottsbluff. Preceding Leonard in death are his parents, a granddaughter, 2 brothers, a sister and 2 brother-in-laws.
