Malcolm “Gene” Browning, 79, died Wednesday, April 11, 2007 at Regional West Medical Center. At his request, cremation will take place before funeral services which will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, April 14, at Dugan-Kramer Funeral Chapel in Scottsbluff with Pastor Russell Saito officiating. Interment will follow at Fairview Cemetery. Memorials in Gene’s name may be made to the American Heart Association. Gene was born August 24, 1927 in Colorado Springs, Colorado to William and Nina (Carrington) Browning and was raised in the foothills on the west side of the city. He served in the US Navy at the end of World War II and later worked for many years in the grocery business in Montana, California, Colorado and Nebraska until his retirement in 1992. He married his first wife, Betty Bentley in 1947 and had 2 sons. He later married Avis Carl in Scottsbluff in 1983. His hobbies included square dancing, woodworking and creating number audio and video memories for his family. Survivors include his wife, Avis Browning of Scottsbluff; son Roy Browning of Holbrook, Arizona; step-daughters, Reva Fielding and her husband Stewart of Alliance and Barb Wood and her husband Dan Real of Centennial, CO; 9 grandchildren, Dawn Marie (Browning) Cervantes of California, Jeremy, Stevi, Chelsea & Brodie Fielding of Alliance, Alex and Meredith Wood and Jordan and Sam Real of Centennial, CO; 2 great-grandchildren in California; and numerous nieces and nephews. Preceding Gene in death were his parents, his son William, and 4 sisters and 5 brothers.
