MaryEllen was born July 14, 1946 in Scottsbluff, NE to Jess and Caritina (Castenda) Medina. She graduated from Gering High School with the Class of 1964. After high school, she married the love of her life and her one and only Raul “Ralph” Magdaleno on August 29, 1964. The couple were married for 49 years and 10 months before Ralph’s death in 2014.
MaryEllen was a loving and caring mother to her sons, Todd and Steven. She was a proud and loving grandmother to Taylor, Alexis, and McCinsey, and a great-grandmother to Harley Jade. They were her greatest treasures. MaryEllen was the eldest of eight siblings: sisters Norma, Judy, and Laura; brothers Mario, Anthony, Felipe, and Paul.
MaryEllen worked as a paraprofessional for Scottsbluff Public Schools for 32 years and was a recruiter for the Summer Migrant Program for 30 years. She was devoted in her Catholic faith and always had faith in the Lord. She loved to travel and took many trips to California and Puerto Vallarta, Mexico.
MaryEllen loved music and especially loved to dance with her husband Ralph. They were wonderful dancers. Be it a cumbia, Jitterbug, freestyle, or the suave dances, she was known for having circles surround her while she danced away.
MaryEllen was known for her impeccable taste and was always dressed well. She loved her plants and to be outside. MaryEllen was her family’s rock and they loved her cooking and she loved to feed them. No one could out cook her: BBQ spare ribs, mole’, enchiladas, and pork chile’. Family came first, always, and she gave them unconditional love.
Her sons, Steven and Todd, never wanted for anything and knew they were loved. She was a wonderful mother and will forever be in their hearts.
MaryEllen is survived by her sons Steven and Todd; granddaughters Alexis and McCinsey; great-granddaughter Harley Jade; mother Caritina Giron; brothers Mario (Julie) Medina, and Felipe “Phil” Medina; sisters Norma Guzman (her best friend and confidant), Judy Medina, and Laura Powell; brother-in-law Daniel Guzman; nieces, nephews, and extended family members.
