Nancy Lee Gross

Nancy Lee Gross, 80, of rural Mitchell, died Thursday, September 29, 2016 at Heritage Estates in Gering. Her funeral service will be held at 2 PM on Tuesday, October 4, 2016 at the First Presbyterian Church in Scottsbluff with Reverend Ron Nuss-Warren officiating. Burial will follow at West Lawn Cemetery in Gering. Visitation will be held from 1-7 PM on Monday with the family present from 4-5:30 PM at Dugan-Kramer Funeral Chapel. Nancy was born June 26, 1936 at Melbeta, Nebraska to Christ and Katherine (Yakel) Welsch. She attended school at East Gering Valley, before graduating from Gering High School with the Class of 1954. She attended Nebraska Western Junior College in Scottsbluff for two years and worked at Gilbaugh Insurance Agency for many years.

On June 22, 1958, Nancy was united in marriage to Norman W. Gross in Scottsbluff. The couple made their home on the farm in Mitchell Valley until Nancy moved to Heritage Estates in the summer of 2016. Nancy worked as a cook aide at the Haig School for several years.

She is a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Scottsbluff and bowled for several years on a league in Gering. She was passionate about cooking and knew everyone’s favorite dish. She always made enough to feed any extra guests at her table. Nancy recorded soap operas daily on her VCR. The grandchildren knew not to touch the TV if the red light was on! Nancy also enjoyed completing the daily crossword puzzle in the paper, often keeping the comic section from the kids while she worked on the puzzle.

Nancy and Norman traveled the region and enjoyed attending concerts, stock shows, and seeing the attractions of the region. They never missed a sporting event or school activity of the grandkids. Family was very important to Nancy and she enjoyed hosting all of the holiday gatherings at their home.

Nancy is survived by her husband Norman; daughter Callie (Aaron) Schroeder of Gering; grandchildren Nate (Stevie) Gross and Brigitte Gross (Roger Anaya) all of Scottsbluff, Elizabeth Gross-Blanchard of Lincoln, Bethany (Dave) Mehring of Gering, and Ethan Blanchard of Denver, CO; great-grandchildren Josiah, Alyssa, Bailee, Sahraya, Melanie, Parker, Zyanna, and baby boy to be born Dec. 2016; sister and brother-in-law Linda and Keith Walters of Gering; nieces, nephews, and extended family members.

Nancy was preceded in death by her parents, father and mother-in-law James and Isabell Gross, son Curt Gross, sister-in-law Mary Lou Gross, brother and sister-in-law Neal and Hilda Gross, nephew Ron Gross and niece Shari Yung.
