

Opal Bernice Diffendaffer, 95, of Scottsbluff, died Monday, September 26, 2016 at her apartment at The Village at Regional West. Her funeral service will be held at 10 AM on Saturday, October 1, 2016 at Monument Bible Church with Pastor Jake Roberts and Pastor Jeremy Skaggs officiating. Burial will follow at Fairview Cemetery. Visitation will be from 1-7 Friday at Dugan-Kramer Funeral Chapel. Memorials may be given to Camp ROCK or the Gideons. Opal was born February 14, 1921 at Filley, Nebraska to Cloyd and Mattie (Lillie) Tilton. When she was a young girl, the family moved to the Sunflower Community north of Mitchell where she received her education. The family moved to a farm northeast of Minatare and Opal worked at a creamery in Scottsbluff following her graduation from high school.
Opal was united in marriage to Eldon W. Diffendaffer on March 5, 1945 in Chadron. The couple farmed northeast of Minatare all their married lives. Opal worked at Highland School for nearly two decades.
Opal was a member of various Sunday Schools and taught Sunday School as well as Vacation Bible School for many years. Opal was an active member of the ACME Extension Club for decades. She took her duties as a homemaker seriously – she was the first one up in the morning and the last one to bed every night. She was an excellent cook, raised a large garden which she would can and freeze to provide for her family throughout the year, sold eggs and cream, and helped with farm work. She liked to crochet; having given everyone in her immediate family a crocheted blanket.
Opal was a patient and kind person who never complained and had a deep personal faith. She moved to The Village in June of 2006 where she made her home until her death. Opal regularly attended Monument Bible Church and Plymouth Congregational Church with her family.
Opal is survived by her children: Gary Diffendaffer of Centennial, CO, Ron and Carol Diffendaffer, Jan and Mike Blue, and Karen and Steve Hascall all of Scottsbluff; Nine grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; sister-in-law Dorothy Diffendaffer of Gering; and many nieces, nephews, and extended family members.
Opal was preceded in death by her parents, husband Eldon, great-grandson Aiden Spencer, daughter-in-law Joy Sandberg-Diffendaffer, niece Claudia Parker, brother Charles Tilton, brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law Harold and Twila Tilton, Everette and Elinor Tilton, Donald Diffendaffer, Sidney and Mildred Diffendaffer, Collis and Ava Betson, Gerald and Bernice Harris, and Larry and Arla Helser.
