Rita Mae Schmidt

Rita Mae Schmidt, 77, of Scottsbluff, died Friday, October 19, 2007 at Heritage Estates in Gering. Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, October 24, 2007 at Dugan-Kramer Funeral Chapel with Pastor Jason Schmidt officiating. Interment will be in Fairview Cemetery. Rita was born August 15, 1930 in Stromsburg, NE to John Walter and Gay (Long) Almberg. They moved to the Brule area which was closer to Walter’s family who farmed near Big Springs. Rita was two years old when her father passed away. Rita was five years old when her mother married Gustav Schulz. She graduated from Brule High School in 1948. She married Alfred Krajewski in October 1948. To this union one son and four daughters were born. In 1979 she married Edward Schmidt in Scottsbluff. Rita enjoyed reading, bowling, playing cards, cooking, and farm life though out her lifetime. Rita quietly touched the lives of many during her journey through life and will be fondly remembered. She is survived by her daughters: Carol Roy of Lakewood, CO, Judy (Melvin) Maika, Scottsbluff, NE, Barbara (Mike) Boone, Pahrump, NV and Mary (Larry) Schledewitz of Bridgeport, NE; sister: Mable Ecker, Delta Junction, AK and brother Charles Schulz of Las Vegas, NV; 7 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. Rita was preceded in death by her husband Edward Schmidt, son Gerald Kraski, her parents, and brothers John Almberg and Bill Schulz.
