Roger F Leafgreen

His memorial service will be held on Thursday, October 13, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. at Bethel Baptist Church with Pastor Brandon Yuill officiating and military honors. A private family inurnment will be held at a later date in East Lawn Cemetery. Memorials have been established to the Regional West Hospice and the First Presbyterian Church in Scottsbluff. Roger was born on January 6, 1922 to Ernest and Lillian (Hedstrom) Leafgreen. He graduated from Minatare High School in 1940 and attended one year at UNL. He then came home and began working with his father in construction learning the bricklayer trade. He joined the US Army Air Corps and flew B-17’s in WWII.

Roger married Lenora Behm on Jul 24, 1945 and they raised three children: Roger Jr., Douglas and Susan. Roger and Lenora moved from Minatare to Scottsbluff in 1959 and to Northfield Vista in 2005.

Roger worked for Wiedeman Brothers and Leo Temple Construction companies for most of his career. Roger was a Master Bricklayer and was proud of the work he did on many buildings in our community, and the Daniel Fischer Clock Tower in downtown Denver.

In his retirement years, he enjoyed working in his garden, playing golf, and spending time with family and friends. He was a member of the Scottsbluff Elks Lodge, American Legion, Bricklayers Union and the First Presbyterian Church of Scottsbluff. Roger was a kind, generous and loving man and will be sadly missed by many.

Survivors include sons Roger Jr. of Scottsbluff and Douglas (Melody) Leafgreen of Gering and daughter Susan (Mark) Masterton of Scottsbluff; four grandchildren: Toby (Robin) Leafgreen of Parker, CO, Nicole (Jonathan) Hoesch of Lincoln, NE, Lindsey (Matthew) Mahan of Maitland, FL and Allen Masterton of Niwot, CO; seven great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife Lenora, parents and sisters Evelyn Imes and Jean Ellen Van Noy.
