Sandee was born on September 24, 1943, in Scottsbluff, Nebraska to Henry and Alice (Ring), Rein, Jr. She graduated from Scottsbluff High School in 1961 and met the love of her life, Marvin, on August 6, 1961, at her cousin’s German wedding and they married on July 8, 1962. They had two children, Dan and Lisa. She also helped raise her nephew, Hanky, for several years and remains close to him.
She worked campaign at the sugar factory and at Tempo from 1972-1982 and at Western Pathology from 1982-1996, then WPCI from 1996-2005 when she retired.
She loved her family more than anything. Her grandchildren and great grandchildren were her pride and joy. She would do anything for them no matter what, even if their parents disagreed. She was the glue to the family. After she retired, she cooked lunch for the boys one day every week and absolutely loved them coming over and telling stories and enjoyed their laughter so much.
She made the most beautiful cakes for so many years for every family member including her own son and daughter’s wedding cakes. She loved cooking and making all the kids’ favorite German dishes. She spent much of her life spending every weekend and vacation in Otter Creek at Lake McConaughy fishing, cooking and making memories for the entire family and anyone else in the trailer park that stopped by to tell fishing stories or just talk about the weather.
Sandee is survived by her husband Marvin Henkel of Scottsbluff; children Dan (Tammy) Henkel of Scottsbluff and Lisa (Randy) Steele of Scottsbluff; grandchildren Mike Henkel of Melbeta, Tyler (Joslin) Henkel of Mitchell, Amanda (Josh) Caven of Omaha, Derek (Jennifer) Henkel of Scottsbluff, Ryan Steele of Scottsbluff, Brooke (Andrew) Patnou of Phoenix, AZ, Kara Henkel of Gering and Ashley Steele of Scottsbluff; 14 great grandchildren; special nephew Hanky (Margie) Rein of Natches, Mississippi and many other nieces and nephews.
