In Celebration of Theresa “Terri” Holmes
The information for the early years of Terri’s life is all from memory so there will be some gaps in time.
In March of 1966 a little girl was born in a small town in Idaho on March 21, 1966, an amazing person was born, Theresa L Hewitt. Terri grew up with 1 brother and a younger sister. About when Terri was 6 yrs old her family was split apart, and the children were put up for adoption.
Terri was adopted by James and June Collings of Boise ID. Terri came into her new family with two older brothers, Thom and Tony.
When reaching the age of 18, Terri made her way to Sidney NE, in this small Nebraska town this young lady started her journey. After meeting her future husband at a pool tournament this started a transformation that would take many years to complete.
Terri married Kent A Holmes in Holdrege NE on Nov. 26, 1986, this commitment would last for almost 40 years. Having moved from Sidney to Holdrege, back to Sidney then up to Deadwood South Dakota for 7 years. After many moves from SD to TX, she embraced meeting new people and helping people if they needed help, sometimes with the last dollar that she had.
After settling in Scottsbluff Ne, she joined the ALR of Post 36 with her husband, then a few years later she joined the AM Legion Aux Unit 36. After a couple of years Terri got more involved with the Aux. She would attend monthly meetings and get involved with projects that had to be completed, one of these projects was the sale of poppies, she never missed a day, she would give up working to complete this mission.
From starting adult life with no home and very few friends this young lady made a transformation from “just taking care of myself” to helping our children and youth, the community, and helping Veterans and their families.
Terri is survived by her husband and his family. As well as the whole American Legion Family.
