

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, June 2, 2018 at WestWay Christian Church in Scottsbluff with Pastor Joe Petersen officiating. There will be no visitation as cremation has taken place in accordance with Violet’s wishes. Memorials may be made in care of the family to be used toward the Dave Kreiling Pedal Tractor Park at the Legacy of the Plains Museum. Tributes of sympathy may be left at www.dugankramer.com.
Violet was born February 24, 1929 in Rushville, Nebraska to Hans and Evangeline (Aubert) Fankhauser. She graduated from Rushville High School on May 3, 1947.
Violet married Melvin Smith on May 22, 1949 at Morse Memorial United Methodist Church in Rushville. To this union two daughters were born Dianne and Gloria.
Violet was a homemaker. She loved taking care of her family. She and Melvin did a lot of traveling throughout the United States and Canada. Her most memorable was their trip to Alaska.
Survivors include her husband of 68 years Melvin; daughters Dianne Kreiling and Gloria Walters both of Gering; grandchildren Brent (Jacquie) Kreiling of Rapid City and Brandon (Jodi) Kreiling of Omaha and Kara (Raymond) Lemoine of Mitchell; brothers John Fankhauser of North Platte, Ed (Jeanie) Fankhauser of Denver and Lefty (Edna) Fankhauser of Springfield, CO; 11 great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, 6 sisters, one brother and son-in-law David Kreiling.
