

Walter D. Stauffer, lifetime rancher/farmer from Banner County, Nebraska, died at the Northfield Villa Med Center on Monday, March 31, 2008. His funeral service will be held on Friday, April 4, 2008 at 10:00 a.m. at Dugan Kramer Funeral Chapel with Pastor Ken Boston officiating. Interment will follow at West Lawn Cemetery in Gering. Visitation will be Thursday from 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the chapel. Walter was born on October 6, 1912 in Banner County to Frank F. and Martha (Osborne) Stauffer. He was united in marriage to Helen L. Jessup on December 12, 1934. Walter spent his life ranching and farming on the homestead place until moving with Helen, to the Northfield Vista where he resided until his death. Walter remained involved with the ranching and farming operation and always looked forward to the wheat harvest. Walter’s pride and joy were his Hereford cattle. He was also an avid Cornhusker and Yankee Fan. Survivors include his daughter, Gwendolyn (Josef) Bayerl of Banner County and son, Jerry D. (Mona) Stauffer of Castle Rock, Colorado; grandchildren: Teri (Steve) Drake of Greybull, Wyoming, Tina (Rick) Rein of North Pole, Alaska, Melody Holden of Galena, Kansas, Craig (Sundi) Stauffer of Bainbridge Island, Washington and Janelle (Mark) Wade of Las Vegas, Nevada; 11 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. He is also survived by a sister, Mary Luckinbill, of Bridgeport, Nebraska. Preceding him in death were his parents; wife, Helen on February 16, 2003, grandson, Timothy Muhr, five brothers and three sisters.
