Alice Marie “Bo” Dowden, 95, passed away peacefully at her home on March 23, 2017 in Terrell, TX. She was born on February 13, 1922 to John Wesley and Mary Ann (Pavlica) Brooks in Taylor, TX. Alice was married to Elbert Olan “E.O.” Dowden on December 24, 1941 in Austin. Alice attended college at Southwest Texas State University in San Marcos. During her marriage, she and E.O. lived in Corpus Christi, Laredo, Austin, Dallas, Portland, Oregon, Detroit and Kaufman. Alice was employed at the Dallas Police Department for several years as a secretary in the Vice Control Division, thus earning the nickname “Sarge.” In Detroit, she worked for the IRS, transferred to the ATF and eventually retired from the ATF in 1993. She and E.O. moved back to Texas and retired in Kaufman where they became involved in Meals on Wheels for many years. Alice was a great fan to the Detroit Tigers, but upon arriving back in Texas, swiftly transferred her allegiance to the Texas Rangers. She was very artistic and enjoyed china painting, and was an accomplished seamstress. She volunteered at the First United Methodist Church in Kaufman and was a member there. Her greatest pleasure in life was her family and they will forever hold her memory in their hearts. Preceding her in death are her parents John and Mary Brooks; husband of 55 years, E.O. Dowden, sister Dorothy Owens and niece Barbara Owens Richardson. Those left to cherish her memory are her children: Darlene Whitworth and husband, Robert of Garland, Audrey Shirai and husband, Harvey of Lake Dallas, Marlena Boggess and husband, Mike of Canton, and John Dowden and wife, Janet of Terrell; grandchildren: Greg Whitworth, Chad Whitworth and wife, Wendy, Ben Shirai, Anji Shirai and husband, Josh Hummert, Aaron Boggess and wife, Tamara, Jarrod Boggess, Jake Boggess, Justin Dowden and Jeremy Dowden; great-grandchildren: Linden Shirai, Dayton Boggess, A.J.
