Charlie Eugene “Gene” Herrington, 93, was welcomed into the waiting arms of his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on June 23, 2017. He was born March 22, 1924 in Brushy Creek, Texas to Vergil Carroll Herrington, Sr. and Charity Caroline “Callie” Herrington. He was the youngest of seven children. Gene joined the Navy and served in World War II on the USS McCracken (APA-198) from 1944 to 1946. This service led to a lifelong love of his country and great patriotism. He was a longtime faithful member of the United Methodist Church and served on many committees. He also served his community as a Boy Scout Leader. Through the years he had several careers including: owning a grocery store, working for the US Postal Service and performing groundskeeping and maintenance for Seagoville State-Home Bank. The loves of his life were first and foremost his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, family, friends, gardening and carpentry. His greatest passions were reminiscing about important events in history, talking politics and teaching himself to play the harmonica and mandolin, along with several other instruments. He was preceded in death by his wife of 62 years Patricia (Moore) Herrington, grandson Jason Michael Picus, brothers: Joe, Raymond, Gilbert, Vergil, Johnnie and sister Mattie Lee. Left to cherish his memories are his daughter Marsha Picus and husband Gerald, son Mitch Herrington and fiancée Cindy Edgar; grandchildren Jodi Green and husband Marshall, Kiali Herrington and Jason Wickersham; great-grandchildren Collin and Travis Smith and Keaton, Karlie and Korbin Green, and many other beloved family and friends.
