Eddie was born on August 28, 1950, in Santa Fe, New Mexico, to James "Jay” and Lida Brumley. During his early years, the family lived on a dairy farm in Olney, Texas, where Eddie graduated high school and soon after enlisted in the United States Navy.
Eddie proudly served as a hospital corpsman aboard the USS Lawrence during the Vietnam War. With the war efforts winding down, he was honorably discharged and returned home in 1973. Not long after, he embarked on his greatest adventure—fatherhood.
Following the birth of his eldest son, Eddie moved with his family to Stephenville, Texas, where he spent four years serving as a Deputy Sheriff for Erath County. He later found a true calling in the trucking industry, working for several companies over the years. His favorite roles were local routes that allowed him to return home each evening and be with the family he cherished so deeply.
Though he eventually retired from trucking, Eddie was far from idle. He pursued his interest in computer science and IT by enrolling in online classes and working toward an associate’s degree. A true lifelong learner and craftsman, he enjoyed leatherworking, held a pilot’s license and loved flying, worked as a radio technician, and was an avid gun enthusiast. He especially loved watching classic Westerns—John Wayne being a favorite.
Above all, Eddie loved his family, his country, and his fellow service members. He made every effort to keep his family close, especially during the holidays, going out of his way to bring everyone together—often blending different parts of the family. He was proud of his service and never missed a chance to thank fellow veterans, knowing firsthand the challenges many faced upon returning home from war.
Greeting Eddie in That Good Night were his parent, Jay and Lida Brumley; his brother, Carl Dean Brumley, and his grandson, James Vara Jr.
Left to cherish in his memory are his children, Bill D. Brumley and wife Kim, Venus S. Vara and husband JJ, Kira A Brumley, Kevin W. Brumley and wife Robin; grandchildren, Ally Brumley, Haille Brumley, Rylie Brumley, Jack Brumley, Peyton Vara, Ashley Gillis, Abigail Wiseman, Alex Wiseman, Summer Sky Moody; great-grandchildren, Waylon Vara and Spencer Vara, along with many loving extended family members and friends.

A Funeral celebration of life will occur Thursday, July 3, 2025 at 9:00 AM in the Funeral Home Chapel with a short committal service to follow at 11:00 AM at the Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery with military honors
