Eugene Floyd Dawson left his earthly body on December 9, 2020 to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Floyd was born September 14, 1932 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma to Finis R. Dawson and Beulah Brown Dawson. On June 28, 1952 he married the love of his life, Ina Mae Prince. They were members of Salem Missionary Baptist Church in Lawton, Oklahoma where he surrendered to the ministry. They moved to Marlow, Oklahoma so he could attend Oklahoma Missionary Baptist Institute where he received a Bachelor of Theology in Bible in 1972. While attending school, he pastored his first church in Fort Cobb, Oklahoma and then accepted the call to serve as Missionary to Australia. After returning to the states, he pastored churches in California, Oklahoma, Oregon and Texas. While pastoring, Floyd worked as a janitor in many schools as a second job, but he enjoyed it. He used every opportunity he had to witness to the students and fill in for teachers where he would share stories of being a missionary in Australia.
Floyd loved his family and always wanted the family to be together. He enjoyed playing cards with the grandkids and taking them to parks to play and taking the kids out to breakfast and antique shopping. He always liked to bake cakes and cookies with the grandkids, and they all enjoyed the fruits of their labor. He loved his cookies and chocolates. Floyd enjoyed watching Western shows and movies. He especially enjoyed road trips with Ina. One thing you could count on with Floyd was his desire to share Christ with everyone he met.
Floyd is preceded in death by his mother, father, and sister, Lina Bell. He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Ina, his sisters, Erma Dean Coleman, Patsy Bowen and husband Don, Earline Branum and husband Bill, Linda Rushing and husband Jack, son, David Dawson and wife Darlene; son, Doug Dawson; daughter, Denise Davis and husband Greg; daughter, Dawna Herring and husband Mike; grandchildren, David Dawson and wife Waynette, Diana Dawson, Daniel Dawson and wife Brandy, Darrell Dawson and wife Nova, Shannon Thurston and husband Mark, Seth Davis, Amy and Emily Herring and great-grandchildren, Deanna, Dayna, Demi, Deven, Dean, Dwight, Daylee, Hannah, Daniel, Benjamin, Rebecca, Elizabeth and Matthew. He also leaves behind numerous nieces, nephews, and brothers-in-law.
He will be missed, but we know we will be reunited again.
