Evelyn attended schools in Wheeler, TX and was a graduate of Mt. Vernon High School where she was an excellent student and basketball player. She was a faithful Christian and sang in a gospel choir quartet for many years when she and her family were living in Missouri. Evelyn never owned a piano, but was a gifted player and was able to play “by ear”. She loved to read books, crochet and quilt and to be outside and garden with her plants and flowers. She was known as a hard worker all of her life. Affectionately known as “Grannie” to everyone, Evelyn loved her daughters and family and enjoyed spending quality time with them, along with her “boys”, Mouse, a teacup Chihuahua and Reese, a chocolate Lab.
Preceding her in death are her parents and husband, Leroy Lamb.
Those left to cherish her memory are daughters Mavis Brown and Reita Welch, both of Malakoff; granddaughter: Susan Insco and husband, Jim of Huntington, WV; grandson: Sergeant First Class (Retired) Steve Brown and wife Elena of South Point, OH; great-grandchildren Alicia Insco and Aaron Nield of Huntington, WV; Jacob Insco of Huntington, WV; Special First Class Steven Walker and wife, Bryana of Ft. Bragg, NC; Kolby Brown of South Point, OH; great-great-grandson Bentley Walker of Ft. Bragg, NC; son-in-law Robert Brown; nieces and nephews from the Texas Panhandle and a host of extended family and friends that will miss her dearly.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the American Heart Association.
