

Hugh was an active volunteer with the St. Michael's Maritime Museum in Maryland. He loved taking walks outdoors, gardening and boating. He sailed weekly with his friend, Charlie on the Magothy in competitions and won many races. He loved to watch sports and to attend his grandsons sporting events as often as possible. He was active with all the Episcopal churches he attended and served the Lord in many ways. He served in the Army National Guard as a young man and later worked as an engineer with Westinghouse Defense for many years.
He is preceded in death by his parents Clyde and Elsie Whitaker, his wife Susan Whitaker of 43 years, and one sister, Patricia Hawfield.
He leaves behind his faithful companion, Lilah, to live with his son, the Hugh's family in Texas.
Those also left to cherish his memory are his sons, Hugh E. Whitaker, II and wife Shauna of Lancaster, TX and Mark Whitaker and wife, Carrah of Tallahassee, FL. Grandchildren: Logan and Colin Whitaker of Lancaster, TX, Hunter and wife, Anna Marie Whitaker of Crawfordville, FL and Thomas Whitaker of Tallahassee, FL.
He will be dearly missed by all who knew him.
