Jackie was born on September 29, 1938, in Waco, Texas, to Ernest Watkins and Genevieve June Watkins. The family later moved closer to Dallas, where Jackie grew up in the Oak Cliff neighborhood and attended Sunset High School.
Early in her life, Jackie began her family and found great joy in becoming a mother to her three children. Throughout her life, she enjoyed spending time with friends, traveling, playing tennis, dancing to classic country music, and being outdoors. She loved her time in nature, whether in her garden surrounded by roses and butterflies or on the water. Jackie was also a creative spirit, with a passion for photography, painting, and writing.
Jackie's family and friends will always remember her as a wonderful mother with an adventurous spirit, who embraced life and all the joys it had to offer, and her immense love for those around her.
She was preceded in death by her father, Ernest Watkins; her mother, Genevieve Harrell; and the father to her children, Billy Jack Jones.
Jackie is survived by her children, Brad Jones (and wife, Jan), Sabrina Alderman, Van Jones (and wife, Melissa), and her life partner of 26 years, B.L. Grimmett. She also leaves behind 7 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild on the way. She is further survived by her brother, Richard Watkins (and wife, Rosemary), her sister, Michelle Reed (and husband, Jerry), and a host of extended family and many loving friends.
Jackie's memory will live on in the hearts of those who loved her.
"Tougher than leather
Handled all kinds of weather
Danced light as a feather
She's our precious treasure"
- Sabrina Alderman
