Robbie married the love of her life January 19, 1946 and they celebrated their 76th Anniversary this past January. She was a long time member of First Baptist Church and served in the nursery most of those years. Robbie attended Seagoville schools and graduated May of 1943 from SHS. During her senior year she worked with Mattie Oliver at Gulf States Telephone Co as a telephone operator. After graduation Robbie went to work at Sears, Roebuck & Co, S. Lamar in the Telephone Order Dept taking orders from catalogs and known to her customers as Operator 48. Robbie remained in that department until she retired in 1983 after 40 years of service.
Robbie loved to crochet and made many beautiful doilies, afghans, tablecloths and bedspreads. She also loved to quilt and had the most beautiful hand stitch and finished pieces. Robbie and Richard loved to travel in their Silver Streak especially those trips to the beach with their kids and grandkids. Many rocks, driftwood, arrowheads and sand dollars were collected over the years of their travels whether it was at the deer lease, the mountains of Colorado and Wyoming or the Ozarks.
Robbie Lena was full of grace, beauty, love and kindness. She made the best pie crust and Christmas Candies, she was amazing in the kitchen, she was the baker and Richard was the cook. Every Halloween, Robbie would make popcorn balls for the kids, their parents would happily drive them out to pick them up. Robbie never met a stranger and you never left their home empty handed. She was the perfect hostess… She will be missed by so many, but is once again with the love of her life.
A Mother holds her children’s hands for a while… their hearts forever.
