Vickey Roberts

Born in Dallas, TX, to Helen and Charles Stogdill, Vickey grew up in Dallas before moving to Kaufman, TX, where she was affectionately known as "Granny" to many in the community.

Vickey and her late husband, Douglas, shared 49 beautiful years together, raising their family in Dallas. A dedicated Sunday school teacher, Vickey’s love for serving God and caring for others led her to a fulfilling career in the medical field. She earned her Bachelor of Science degree in 1981 and devoted 38 years to healthcare, serving as the Emergency Room Manager and Relief House Supervisor at Mesquite Community Hospital before her retirement.

The love between Vickey and Douglas was truly remarkable, often expressed through her joyful laughter and the warmth of his touch. Together, they realized their dream of early retirement and built a farm in 1987. Vickey cherished Sunday dinners and holiday gatherings, but her greatest joy came from the laughter and visits of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

An avid reader and passionate cook, Vickey also enjoyed family vacations throughout her life. After moving to Kaufman, she became actively involved in the Terrell Soccer Association and co-founded the Kaufman Soccer Association, where she coached and served as the Registrar well into her late 60s, seeing this as a calling to serve her community.

Vickey was preceded in death by her parents, Helen and Herbert Hooper, Charles Stogdill; her husband, Douglas Roberts; and her brother, Jimmy Hooper. She is survived by her sister, Peggy Wilson; her children, Marcy Cox and husband Alvin, David Roberts and wife Teresa, and Debbie Stevens; as well as her six grandchildren, fourteen great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Visitation for Vickey will be held on Sunday, October 6, 2024, from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM at Roselawn Funeral Home. A funeral service will take place on Monday, October 7, 2024, at 10:00 AM at the funeral home, followed by a committal service at 11:00 AM in Roselawn Memorial Gardens. The family will also host a reception after the day's services.
