United States Army Hospital
Fort Ord, CA
Passed Away: October 5, 2017

Maurice Rodney Baymon, known to many as Rodney, attended
Noche Buena Elementary School, Roger S. Fitch Jr. High School,
on the former Fort Ord Army Base, and Seaside High School, graduating in 1968.
While at Seaside High School, Maurice, made the varsity football team, lettering in that sport. He was a participating member of the Letternen’s Club, the Speech and Debate Team, the Peninsula Wide Youth Club, and the Electronics Club.
However, above all else, Maurice was recognized as a Commended Scholar.
Maurice attended the Northrop Institution of Technology, renamed Northrop University in 1975, in Inglewood, CA majoring in Computer Programming Languages. With that knowledge, Maurice began a career with the Minnesota Mining and Manufacturing Company, better known as 3M, a career that spanned over twenty years, working in two unique locations, Maplewood, Minnesota and Las Vegas, Nevada.
Maurice was diagnosed with a brain tumor while working in Las Vegas and was transported to Alta Bates Hospital in Berkeley for surgical treatment and rehabilitation. This hospital was the likely choice as his brother, Lenard, worked in the area and was able to monitor his progress. Though the surgery was somewhat successful the neurological prognosis would lead to Maurice’s declining health. Maurice relocated back home to Seaside, CA occasionally working with 3M assisting them with their most difficult analytical data programming compilations.
Though Maurice was not able to hold a full-time job outside of the home his days were filled being a caregiver to both his father and mother, Porter Lee Baymon and Alice Delaney Baymon, with occasional assistance from their sister Mirim Y. Baymon, all of which preceded Maurice in death.
Maurice Rodney Baymon is survived by his brother Porter Lenard Baymon, and his family: wife, Melanie C. of Pittsburgh, CA, daughter Raena A. Furlow, granddaughter Kyanna M Barber, and great-grandson Kailen J. Robinson all of Oakland, CA. Memorial Services at: Bayside Community Mortuary, 1610 Noche Buena Street, Seaside, CA.
