June 26, 1947 – March 23, 2014
Michael was the first child born to Margaret Emma Mulé (Mayberry) and Walter S. Mulé, on June 26, 1947, in Waltham, MA. The son of an Army officer, he had lived in France, Germany and Russia by the time he was six years old. Upon the family's return from Russia, they took up residence in New Jersey.
During this time he found a love of model railroad building, beginning the construction of the first of many trucks, cars and engines. In 1960, the family moved to Santa Barbara and then to Pacific Grove, where he attended junior high. The family returned to the Santa Barbara area.
He attended San Marcos High School in Goleta, CA, and while still in high school joined the Naval Reserves. He began his active duty in 1965, serving for two years aboard the cruiser, USS Columbus. While in their home port of Norfolk, VA, he began his lifelong interest in motorcycles and established a small club made up of other sailors
Upon his discharge from active duty, he took a position as a motorcycle mechanic at Honda Motorcycles of Monterey and pursued a career as a mechanical engineer. He received a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from Pacific Western University in 1985, a Bachelor of Technical Education from National University in 1990, and a Master of Business Administration from Golden Gate University in 1992. He was most proud of achieving his P.E. license. In his professional career he worked for numerous equipment manufacturing and food processing companies, large and small, and retired last year.
He was married for over 32 years and leaves behind the love of his life, Winnie. They chose to be married on Valentine's Day, 1982, and what followed were many, many road trips on their Harley-Davidson, sailboarding on the Columbia River Gorge, and wine tasting excursions to Oregon and Washington. He was an avid reader, and his most recent hobbies included building tube amplifiers and his continued passion for model railroading. Also, he is survived by his sister Nicole, brother, Christopher; nephews, Dylan, Anthony and Alexander, his mother Margaret, and many cousins. His intellect and wit will be missed by all.
A memorial service will be held on May 3, at 1:00 p.m. at the home of his cousin, Richard and Maria, 15002 Castroville Blvd., Castroville . Donations in Michael’s memory may be made to Hospice of the Central Coast.
