

Nomizell Whitfield was born March 15, 1930 in Sacual, TX to Mance and Alzonia Polk. She attended the Henderson, TX public school system. She was baptized into the Church of Christ in Henderson, TX in 1945 and moved to Fort Worth, TX in 1946 with her parents. She was married at an early age to George Frank Wright. To that union, three children were born: Priscilla Louise, Wanda Faye and Billy Wayne. Nomizell worked in a domestic capacity for the next decade. In 1956, she met and married her loving husband, Sgt. Chester Whitfield and traveled extensively with the children during his military career. In their travels she worshiped with many Church of Christ congregations all over the world and made many lifelong friends. In 1976, they were stationed at Fort Ord and thereafter decided to settle in Marina, CA. She worked as a Reorder Associate for Aafes at the Post Exchange on Fort Ord where she later retired in 1995. After placing her membership at the Marina Church of Christ in 1978, she remained a loyal and devoted member until her passing and was actively involved in church activities. Nomizell loved the Lord and enjoyed cooking, singing, golf, and watching “Walker, Texas Ranger.” She loved to keep in touch with her family and friends by phone and write letters across the miles. She was known as “Mama” and “Grandma” by many and found great joy in making others smile and laugh.
On Thursday, July 17, 2014 she was called home from labor to reward. She is survived by her devoted husband, Chester; her daughters, Priscilla Norfleet of Detroit, MI and Wanda Lay of Fort Worth, TX; two sisters, Syrester Walker of San Antonio, TX and Ozell Everhardt of Fort Worth, TX; nine grandchildren, Carl Williams Jr. (Lolita), Yzette McGimpsey (Shawn), Jeanette Stanley (Robert), James Liddell III (Toddra), Nicole Miles (Nathan Jr.), Norman Williams, Zenettra Liddell, Alicia Smith (Harrison Jr.), JoVonna Williams, twenty-one great grandchildren, one great- great grandchild, two sister in laws, Earline Harrison and Carrie Whitfield and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and church family. She is preceded in death by her parents; her son, Billy Wayne; one great grandchild, Cheyenne; and three brothers, Jessie, Carl, and Homer Polk.
