Shirley was given to us by God on December 31, 1953 to parents Clyde and Lenora Lewis. Although Shirley was born in San Francisco, CA, she was raised in Pacific Grove, CA- - Butterfly Town, USA where she attended Robert H Down Elementary School, Pacific Grove JR High School, and Pacific Grove High School.
Shirley received her AA degree from Monterey Peninsula College in criminal justice. She received her BA and master’s degree from University of California, Irvine in social ecology. Shirley lived in Tustin, CA (Orange County) for the past 23 years where she made a home for her and her children, and also many of her nieces and nephews who she cared for at times expressing to each one of them the value and importance of education. A few of Shirley’s hobbies included beading, sewing, and gardening. Shirley loved spending time in her garden, a trait she inherited from her mother.
Shirley re-dedicated her life to Christ during a visit with her baby sister Carmen while in the hospital. “Shirley’s soul was saved”. God gave “Buttercup” (Shirley’s nickname) her dove wings and crown when He called her home on September 24, 2013 with her children and second youngest sister, Lisa at her bedside.
Shirley leaves behind to cherish her memories one uncle, Bob Lewis of Sacramento, CA.; her son, Michael Irving of Tustin, CA.; two daughters, Michelle Lewis-Holmon and Veronica Lewis of Tustin, CA.; four brothers, Doby and Claude (Ducky) Lewis of Seaside, CA., Charles (Ronnie) Lewis of Salinas, CA., and Chris Lewis of San Jose, CA.; four sisters, Sharon (Penny) Lewis of Marina, CA., Stephanie Lewis of Atwater, CA., Lisa Lewis-Campbell of Seaside, CA and Carmen Lewis-Laing of Oakland, CA.; her favorite cousin, Brenda Howard O’ Neal of San Francisco, CA.; three dear friends of 23 years from Orange County, Christy Banks, Rosemary Alvarez, and Toni Hicks; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Psalm 4:8 says “In peace I will lie down and sleep; for you alone o Lord make me dwell in safety”. Sleep now Shirley with the Angels. We love you, but God loves you more. Thank you Lord for giving Shirley to us, for now greater are her rewards in Heaven.
