Ajit Kumar was born on August 4, 1955, in Tavua, Fiji. He passed away peacefully on January 8, 2026. In Suva, Fiji, he was a biology, math and chemistry teacher, and helped his students achieve high scores in order to graduate. He was also a labor officer. At twenty-two years old, he made a courageous journey from Fiji to Canada with his wife, Mohini, and their eight-month-old son, Anit. They began a life defined by hard work and generosity. He lived in Coquitlam/Port Moody, British Columbia, for forty-five years.
Over the years, he became a respected business owner in his community. He operated Mr A-Tune and Brake, Petro Canada gas station and auto repair in Port Moody, and later Kumar Auto Service, which eventually relocated to Port Coquitlam. Known for his honesty, skill, and kindness, he earned the trust of countless customers who became lifelong friends. He quietly helped many people who were struggling, offering support without ever expecting anything in return.
Ajit endured profound loss in his life with the unexpected passing of his son, Anit, in 1996. He is survived by his forever love, Mohini; his daughters Michelle (husband Marlon), and Rosena (husband Devendra); and the greatest pride and joy of his life, his grandchildren: Arianna (8), Elena (7), Avi (7), Emira (6), and Ezekiel (4).
To his family and friends, Ajit was a giver in every sense. He made sure his children had opportunities he never had, including cars at sixteen, trips around the world, and the signature small dishes he loved to prepare that filled the kitchen table. He always encouraged independence and believed his children could do anything they put their minds to, teaching them through experience and allowing them the freedom to learn and grow. Ajit will be remembered for his incredible strength, his generosity, and his style! He will be deeply missed, but we will take comfort in the memories of all the good times, and in knowing that he can finally be reunited with Anit. We love you too much.
