
Allan Bornemeier was born July 6, 1914 in the family farmhouse where his father was also born near Murdock, NE. His parents were Ernest Bornemeier and Ida Achenbach.
His family moved from the family farm to the city of Lincoln, Nebraska in 1920. He graduated from Lincoln High School and attended the University of Nebraska in Lincoln He still loved watching his Huskers play. He served in the band section of the Service Company of the 110th Medical Regiment from 1936 to 1939, and was a member of the Gamma Lambda Fraternity of the University of Nebraska ROTC Marching Band.
He married Verna May Yochum on February 25, 1939, in Ashland, Nebraska, at her family?s home. They moved to Seattle the following year, and to the territory of Alaska, to assist with the building of Elmendorf Air Force Base.
He served proudly in WWII in the Pacific, at Bougainville and the Philippines in the 132nd Chicago National Guard Unit from 1944 -1945. He earned the Combat Infantry Badge and received the Bronze Star award.
He was active in many organizations, including the Boy Scouts, Junior Bowling and the Veterans of Foreign Wars. He served as both the Commander of the Ballard Post # 3063 and as District II Commander from 1971-1972. He was an active member of Bethel Presbyterian Church for many years.
He retired from Civil Service with the Department of the Navy in 1973. After retirement he returned to carpentry and spent the next 20 years doing carpentry as a business.
He enjoyed traveling throughout the US. He saw most of the 50 states and many parts of the world. He and his wife took a trip around the world in 1973, and several trips to Europe followed. He was proud of his family heritage and developed an interest in Family History and can trace portions of his family back to the 1500?s.
He was preceded in death by parents, Ernest and Ida, and brothers Virgil and Roland and his only sister Ferne.
Allan is survived by his wife Verna May of 67 years and 3 children Robert Lillian Bornemeier of Cle Elum, Nancy Camus of Snohomish and Susan Harold Cook, of Issaquah, five grand-children, Shaun Heather Bornemeier of Bothell, Ryan Erin Bornemeier, Bret Bornemeier, Lisa Eric Carter of Seattle and Shelley Jason Ermigarat of Aliso Viejo, CA. He has 3 great grand children, Kirstin, Hannah and Brayden born September 14, 2006.

Services at:10 AM Wed., Nov. 1st at Evergreen-Washelli Funeral Home, 11, 111 Aurora Ave N., Seattle. Burial service follows at 1:30 PM at Tahoma National Cemetery, Kent, Wa.
