Anna was a 2nd generation Seattleite of Norwegian heritage. N'©e Anna Kolloen, she had fond memories of growing up in Wallingford. After graduating from Lincoln High School in 1961, Anna attended the University of Washington where she earned her bachelor of arts in elementary education. At the UW, Anna met the man with whom she would share the next 50 years. Anna married Lowell Park in May of 1965. They moved to Kent, WA where Anna taught the first grade for four years before embarking on motherhood.
After the birth of her two daughters in 1969 and 1971 Anna devoted her life to raising her family. In 1975, the family moved to West Seattle. There, Anna put down her roots and blossomed as a mother, a wife, and as an active member of Alki United Church of Christ. Anna always took the best of care of those close to her and took great joy in knitting, sewing, baking pies, and other domestic arts that embodied her nurturing spirit and love of hearth, home, family and community. After her children were grown, Anna returned to education where she was a respected and often requested substitute teacher with the Seattle School District until she retired.
When Anna's long-awaited granddaughter, Morgan, was born in 2009, Anna rallied to fight the Chronic Lymphatic Leukemia that she had lived with for nearly 20 years. Her valiant and optimistic fight combined with her incredible courage kept her going for several more years before she surrendered and returned to God.
A well-loved wife, sister, mother and grandmother, Nana Anna's, laughter, benevolent spirit, feisty resolve, and intuitive wisdom will be dearly missed by many people. She is remembered for her strong morals regarding human rights and profound sense of justice, as well as a passion for the ocean and music; all gifts she has passed onto her children and grandchild. She is survived by her husband, Lowell Park; her daughters, Cynthia Taylor and April Park; her granddaughter, Morgan Taylor; and her brothers, Peter and Larry Kolloen.
A memorial service will be held on Sunday, August 17th at 2:30 P.M. at Alki United Church of Christ, 6115 Hinds Street, Seattle, WA 98116.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Alki United Church of Christ or to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.
