Annelies (Strobel) McBride July 4, 1936- Dec 4, 2022
On July 4th, 1936 in Oberleutensdorf, Sudentenland, Annelies was born to Karl Josepf and Marianne Mueller Strobel. She joined her big brother, Karl Ferdinand to complete the family. On July 26, 1945, she and her mother were forcibly removed from their home and relocated to East Germany. When she was 13 years old she escaped alone to West Germany where she eventually was reunited with her Mother, Father and older brother. Her family settled in Forchheim, Bavaria, Germany where Annelies worked as a bookkeeper after finishing business school. Annelies loved to travel, and it was during one of these trips that she came to the United States and met her husband, Algy McBride. Algy and Annelies were married on December 23, 1967. Four children followed: Max, Heidi, Patrick and Carol Lee.
Algy’s work took them from Dayton, Ohio to Indianapolis, Indiana and finally to Columbus, Ohio. Everywhere Annelies lived, she made life-long friends. While in Columbus, Annelies started working at “The Bag”- Dispatch Consumer Services. She ended up retiring from DCS after 27 years of service. After retiring she decided she needed to get out of the house, so she started working part time at Lazarus/Macy’s at Kingsdale where she spent most of her paychecks on “great deals” that she would find- including lots of clothing for all of her grandchildren.
Annelies had a servant’s heart. She volunteered for over 25 years with the Immaculate Conception Women’s Club in their ministry at the State Mental Hospital. When her kids were in grade school, she was a regular volunteer at the school library. She was a member of and volunteer at the Clintonville Women’s Club where she helped put to together personal care kits for women in need. She also participated in the I.C. perpetual adoration- spending an hour every Thursday in the chapel.
She loved being both a Mother and an Oma (she probably loved being an Oma more, as she raised 4 stubborn children).
As Annelies’ health declined, she first moved in with her son Patrick and his family in Columbia, California and then to Seattle, Washington near her daughter Heidi. Annelies slipped away in her sleep the early morning of December 4, 2022.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Algy S. McBride, her parents, Karl and Marianne Strobel, her brother, Karl F. Strobel, and her beloved cousin Ingrid Schmotz as well as several brothers and sisters in-law. She is survived by her children Max, Heidi (Stuart Robertson), Patrick (Meredith), and Carol Lee (Cary Wagner) as well as her grandchildren, Louis and Teddy Robertson, Maggie and Sofie McBride, and Christopher, Jack and Nicholas Wagner as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, please donate in Annelies’ name to the Clintonville Historical Society or Immaculate Conception Church.
A funeral mass will be held at Immaculate Conception Church in Columbus, Ohio at 10am on Saturday, February 11, 2023 with interment at Resurrection Cemetery immediately following. A luncheon will follow for family and friends in Marian Hall at Immaculate Conception Church
As Annelies loved to have a glass of wine in the evening, in her honor, please raise a glass of wine. Prost!
