I first met Arnold at Boeing in the mid-80s.  He was funny and smart, with a sunny smile, always hard at work, but always had a moment for conversation.  Arnold loved R&B and soul music and sports cars.  He once invited me to the botanical garden at Washington Park Arboretum, where he impressed me by knowing nearly every flower and plant by name.  After I left Boeing, I would sometimes run into Arnold, usually at Greenlake, and nearly always on his bike.  Arnold was a sweet and kind man, and he will never be forgotten.  My deepest condolences to Arnold's family and to the Seattle Chinese Alliance Church, where Arnold worshipped for many years.  Rest in heaven's glory, my friend.

Uncle Arnold was always so nice and happy--I still remember over 20 years ago when we were first introduced, he was laughing and the energy of the room. He made a joke about our names being connected, and I've never forgotten his thoughtfulness. I always saw him at church, arriving early every Sunday and sitting in the last few pews. His smile and presence will be sorely missed by me and everyone.

I first met Arnold when I joined Boeing in 1984.  Arnold and a number of individuals played speed chess at lunch and due to my love for the game, I was drawn in.  Rumor had it that Arnold was a one-time Junior Chess Champion of Seattle and he made us all better by continually thumping us.  Arnold and I both enjoyed cycling and rode the Crater Lake rim together as well as multiple RAMROD’s.
RIP Arnold!  It was great to have had you in our lives!

Arnold was a great person to have many discussions. Definitely going to missed by so many. Never going to forget the many stories that he told. He was one of the coolest people. The energy that he had was amazingly beyond this world. Sending positive, loving and strength to the family. Wishing you peace, now and always. May you watch over us in Heaven with the Father, Son and Holy Spirit.

Arnie’s passing came as a profound shock to me. I had known him since 2006, and I believe C.O.G.S. has lost a truly wonderful member. Arnie was kind and gentle, possessing a uniquely humorous spirit. He never expressed the slightest ill will toward anyone.
When I was recovering from a serious bike injury in a Seattle rehab facility this past July—over a thousand miles from home—he was kind enough to visit and bring me my favorite foods, as I had requested. His untimely departure leaves a large void for all of us who knew him. May his soul be elevated in The Eternal Realm.

When I led my first bike camping trip Arnie was the only C.O.G.S. member that rode and camped with me. Again when I led a hub n spoke tour in Vancouver, WA from a campground Arnie was the only one to join me car camping. He was always supportive. I led him on some pretty busy roads near Vancouver and I never heard a complaint out of him. In the years I rode with him with C.O.G.S. I never heard him ever complain. He was many times a sweep on rides and one of the most supportive cyclists in the bike community.  If only I had known that the last time I would see him was at C.O.G.S. annual meeting last month.

I was the other bike rider in the 
“Odd Couple” according to Ron Tsuma. I accompanied him on 3 
RAMROD rides, a Passport To Pain ride and several STP rides. When he was the sweep, I was the dustpan. I considered him my best friend though I know others did as well. I will always miss him, his Toyota and Mary and I and our dog “Kona” will too.  I will also miss him eating food at our house including Costco hotdogs with mustard and diced onions and watching movies here. I remain surprised that with all his obvious bicycle riding balance that he had a fatal accident.
I will have more stories to share at his funeral.

I am so sad to learn the passing of Ernie. 

I had the pleasure to know Ernie during the bicycle trip around the World in the year 2000. 

Such a gentleman, so generous, always smiling. 

I have a special gift that Ernie gave me when we visited  Vietnam.  Arnold will always be in my heart.
