He was assigned to the V-12 officer training program and attended University of Southern California and then the University of Washington. He served on Submarine Chaser PC794 out of Bremerton, Washington. He worked his entire career at Boeing and retired in 1987. As he had a top secret clearance not much was ever said about his work life but he ended his career working on the Pegasus Hydrofoil and traveled to Hong Kong and several European countries on this project.
He hiked and snowshoed in the Washington mountains until his 85th birthday and was able to fix or build just about anything. His hobbies included building a HO gauge train set running through the mountains of the northwest, model ship building, scuba diving, watching old westerns, reading every Louis L’Amour book and unofficial custom home construction inspection by walking around the neighborhood and questioning all the builders. He taught his oldest son, Gary, to recognize every car on the road before he was 5 years old. The cars he owned included a 1941 Plymouth, 1953 Ford, 1960 Ford 1972 Ford LTD, 1975 Mercury, 1972 Buick, several more Fords and a Lincoln LS. There were many family road trips, mainly to Chanute, Kansas where the goal of the trip was to beat his previous driving time. His lifelong passion was studying the bible and spreading the gospel.
