Betty Jewel Rynning

Our treasured Mom went to sleep here and woke up in Heaven in the early hours of November 14, 2003. She was preceded in death by her spouse and our dad Robert Rynning, grandson Ethan, brother Mark, sister Melba, and, long ago, her own mom & dad. Her children, David Heidi, Kyle Kathy, Elesa Strauss Steve, Kari Cole Don, Kirsti Rynning, Sarah Mullin Gary, and 17 grandchildren, Dad?s son Peter Priscilla, 3 grandchildren, and one great-grandson, her sister Alma, and many nieces and nephews, survive Mom.

She was born Betty Jewel Davis in Oakland, California, moved with her family to Kitsap Peninsula, graduated from Seattle?s Lincoln High School, and served our nation proudly in the U.S. Navy, enlisting on her 20th birthday. She married Dad, the love of her life, on January 29th, 1956, and together they raised and nurtured 6 loving kids. Though her body suffered the ravages of Multiple Sclerosis for over 30 years, Mom?s courageous and gentle spirit grew stronger each year, bearing her through life?s adversities with a grace that enriched everyone who knew her. She shunned attention for herself, finding her glory in the lives and achievements of her family, and enjoying life?s simple pleasures: A cup of strong coffee, reading, holding hands, and in better days, walks on the beach. She never lost her sense of humor!

Mom, your steadfast faith sustains us now in our time of deep sorrow, and we rejoice in your redeemed body and new life with our Lord Jesus and those who?ve gone before. We love you, we?ll always miss you, and we?ll tell your stories to our children?s children. You have ever been ?the unfading beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is of great worth in God?s sight? 1 Peter 3:4b. Memorial service will be Nov. 21st, 2003 at 3:00pm at St. Paul?s of Shorewood Lutheran Church, 11620 21st SW, Burien.
