Beverly L. Jenes, 89, passed away October 23, 2021, in Shoreline, WA. She was born March 6, 1932, in Valley City, ND, to Oscar and Elizabeth Knutson. Beverly was preceded in death by her parents Oscar and Elizabeth Knutson, her sisters Darlene McDivitt and Donna Bales, and her son Ted Jenes. She is survived by her husband Theodore G. Jenes, her son and daughters in-law Mark Jenes, Ann Jenes and Jean Jenes, her brother Darryl Knutson, grandchildren Eric Jenes and family, Adam Jenes and family, Caitlin Hennebeck and family, Daniel Jenes and family.
The Knutson family moved from North Dakota to Seattle, WA, during her childhood, and it was in Seattle that she attended Lincoln High School where she met her future husband, Ted Jenes. As her husband Ted embarked upon a career in the United States Army, Bev took on the responsibilities and challenges of military life with a spirit and energy that far exceeded her petite appearance. Even though a general's wife, she never forgot her humble beginnings and was a friend to all. She was a phenomenal cook and host who entertained all who entered her home, be they friends and family, or generals and distinguished guests. Throughout her travels across the country and globe, one passion superseded all others and that was Beverly’s love for her family. She was a constant source of love and support for her husband and two sons Ted and Mark as they moved wherever the Army sent them. They made as many visits back to Seattle as possible to visit her parents, siblings, nieces and nephews. An especially favorite role for Beverly was that of grandmother (or Ba, a nickname coined by a grandchild’s mispronunciation). Her grandchildren Eric, Adam, Caitlin and Daniel brought her much joy. As one would expect, Beverly’s love of family and children made her a sweet and loving grandmother that her grandchildren treasured. She was happy to enjoy time with many of her eight great-grandchildren. Additionally, she had a close relationship and love for her nieces and nephews. Bev was a constant presence at all family gatherings, bringing warmth, humor, and great meals wherever she went.
Ted and Bev were blessed to spend over seventy years loving one another. Ted spoke of his love for Bev in the following excerpt from his Army retirement ceremony: "Beverly brought kindness, love, affection, and brightness into every life she ever touched."
Interment will take place later this month at Washelli cemetery and a memorial service will be held in Spring of 2022. Remembrances in Beverly’s name may be made to the children's charity of your choice.
