Cecilia Mar Wong, loving mother, wife, creative soul, joy to many, left us on November 18, 2017. She passed away, quietly, after a brief illness. She was one month short of 93 years. Cecilia created a legacy of happiness for her husband, children and grandchildren. She was born in Oakland, California on December 18, 1924, the sixth of seven children to mother, Nellie and father, Fun Tung Warren: England, Angue, Angkeen, Angshu, Kaye, Cecilia, and Gladys. She later had a half-brother Eddie. Forward two decades and Cecilia, now a young lady living with her mother in Portland, Oregon, met Army PFC George S. Wong. Coincidently, George was also born and raised in Oakland and delivered by the same obstetrician as Cecilia. The beautiful and vivacious Cecilia was courted by the shy and handsome George. Then luck and the war intervened and George was sent overseas. Separated by half a world and extended time, their paths went separate ways. In 1949, Cecilia married Philip L. Mar and raised three children in Seattle, Shelley, Robin and Michael. In the meantime, George married Therese and raised four children, Leslie, Ghislaine, Gina, and Michael. Thirty-nine years passed. Then luck intervened again, this time in their favor. Cecilia and George reconnected and rekindled their love. This time they married in 1983. For the next thirty three years, they traveled and danced the world —fox trot, cha-cha, rhumba, salsa, tango, and waltz. Their children grew close, became friends, and seamlessly blended into one family. As Cecilia’s family, we all share her joy of cooking and hosting special occasions, appreciation for the arts, talent for handicrafts, and love of travel. Most importantly, we strive to emulate her spirit of unconditional kindness, openness and compassion. Cecilia is survived by her husband George Wong and children: Shelley(Tony, Mary), Robin, Michael and Mimi (Philip, Brandon), Leslie and Bill, Gigi and Mike (Justen), Gina and Rick, Michael and Yoshiko (Mizuki, Kanako) and many nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by Dr. Philip L. Mar and grandson, Matthew . Private service for immediate family to be held on Friday, November 24th.
