
Charles Alvin Barone passed away at the age of 70 from multiple myeloma. He was born and raised in New York City. He graduated from the University of Southern California Law School in 1975. He and his family moved to Seattle in 1979 where he started his own general law practice. In 1988 he joined NW Defenders Assoc. In 2002 he shared offices with his good friend, Emilia Castillo, Esq. Charles also served as Judge Pro Tempore in Seattle Municipal Court.
Charles served as a Certified Ombudsman for the King County Long Term Care Ombudsman Program and served at Columbia Lutheran Nursing Home in Seattle. He served briefly as President of the Peoples Memorial Association and also served as a Trails & Rails Volunteer Guide with the National Park Service-Amtrak with his good friend, Efrem Krisher.
Charles was a long-distance runner and finished over 24 marathons. Charles was a loving husband, father, grandfather and uncle.
Charles is survived by his wife of 35 years, Sandra and their loving daughters, Nicole and Vanessa, his son-in-law, Lorn Richey and grand-daughter, Zoe. He is also survived by his eldest daughter, Thanayi Smith and her three children, Brandon, Deven and Elise who reside in Atlanta. Charles was preceded in death by his parents, Horace and Madiana Barone. He is survived by two brothers, a sister, cousins and aunts in the east coast. Charles is also survived by his sisters-in-law, Sonia DeJesus and Luz Rodriguez and their children, Lisa, Deborah, Danielle, Mark and their families.
The family is very grateful to Dr. Paul Hendrie, Aileen, Michael, Amelia, Susan, Rev. Maya and staff members for the excellent and kind treatment that Seattle Center Care Alliance bestowed on Charles and his family.
A Memorial service will be held Thursday, May 10 at 2:00 pm at Evergreen-Washelli Funeral Home, 11111 Aurora Ave N., Seattle.
