Charles "Chuck" Wayne Freeman died May 7, 2025, at 84. Born in Seattle on July 2, 1940, he lived a full life of fun, love and friendship.
Chuck grew up in the Lake City neighborhood, graduating from Lincoln HS in 1958, attending San Francisco State, the University of Washington, and the University of Oregon, earning a PhD in Clinical Psychology in 1971. Over 50 years Chuck touched many lives at the VA and Swedish Hospitals and in his psychology practice, passionate about helping chronic pain patients.
Chuck had an extraordinary way of connecting with people. He was beloved, gentle, thoughtful, and trusted by all. He loved golf, bowling, kayaking, roulette, and poker. With Jean and friends he explored Alaska, Mexico, the Canadian and San Juan Islands. He treasured spending August on Saturna Island, Canada, for over 20 years. Raising Bernese Mountain Dogs was a special love and he adored each dog as they adored him.
He became both dad and mom to Joanna and Jake after the death of their mom, Mary Ruth, in 1985. He was there at every activity, concert and event without fail. He was a sounding board without judgment, only love, and encouraged problem solving and persistence every day. "Don't try, do it," he would say. His never-ending love, wisdom, and support were priceless gifts to his kids.
Chuck was preceded in death by his parents, Carla J. (Wiggen) and Raymond C. Freeman Sr.; his wife, Mary Ruth (Jameson) Freeman; siblings, Raymond C. Freeman Jr. and Joan C. Wilson, and brother-in-law Vaughn "Mac" McClure.
He is survived by his children, Joanna Freeman (Doug Taylor) and Jake Freeman (Jen); his grandchildren, Griffin, Thad, and Agatha; his second wife and friend, Jean Robbins; his sister, Elaine "Sally" McClure; and his dogs, Cedar and Tomo.
A Celebration of Life will be held from 2-4PM on Saturday, Sept 20, 2025, at Lake Ballinger Center, 23000 Lakeview Dr, Mountlake Terrace.
